Life is as we believe it to be.

It is impossible for a man to conceal himself. In every act, word or gesture, he stands revealed as he is, and not as he would have himself appear to be. From the Universe, nothing is or can be hidden – Ernest Holmes

There are those moments of infinite inevitability of impending warning of impetuous shifting of winds, of higher rising of crests of waves, of change of dance of light upon the ocean’s surface into a spotty-shadow-darkness caused by gathering of clouds in sky – that signal a sea change is occurring. So it is with the storms of our feelings, emotions, actions. Before one’s personal storm gains, garners, gathers into a force powerful enough to upset the natural order of events of one’s life, natural order of one’s familiar of the known, natural order of one’s balance – there is always a guiding light – blinking, flashing, signaling – to change course, take a different path, take shelter in one’s faith, – to spend time in prayer, to gather in community of like minded others, to trust in the truth God’s Got It.

Yet we do not heed the warnings of guiding lights, of guiding intuitions, of guiding forces. We continue on unabated, unabashed, unchanging amidst gathering of storm. We maintain prior destination, charted by our prior decisions, plotted by our prior values, planned by our prior beliefs. We do not upgrade our GPS to reflect the changing conditions in our life, our world, our soul. We do not move from held precedents of priorities (past) into the flow of the currency of consciousness (present) that will guide us to a new home (future) of Principles.

It is necessary at times in order to move from our past of set direction, into our present moment of opportunity which will lead to a new future possibility – to heed the guiding light – blinking, flashing, signaling before us – as does a light house signal the helmsmen of the sea to make change of course. There is a story told of a large ocean liner steaming fast along its course which spots the flashing light of a much smaller boat the is approaching bow front – and on direct collision course. The larger boat signals the smaller to change course.

The smaller craft signals back it cannot, will not change course. The larger boat and smaller remain on their individual courses until the smaller craft signal to the larger – “I am a lighthouse – if you do not change course immediately – you will hit a large jetty of rocks.” All too often in our life we do not heed the signal signs of warning to change course until we have run aground upon the rocks of disharmony, distrust, disillusion. It is always one’s held perception of a situation that keeps one determinedly set on prior course. As one releases one’s perception there comes a reception to a new way of seeing, being, becoming, traveling.

Emma Curtis Hopkins – the teacher of teachers.

Emma Curtis Hopkins affirmed “The world will persist in exhibiting before you what you persist the world to be.” Ralph Waldo Emerson said this “Do not go where the path may lead, go where there is no path and leave a trail.” In the course of the sea of consciousness there is no point of origination, no course of journey, no final destination. It is one’s belief which creates the illusion of duality – as opposed to the Illumination of Divine Unity.
